LINKS
I have found the internet to be a huge help in determining calories and calories burned for exercise.  While I can often be found googling something like "calories homemade vegetable soup" and then taking stock of the different sites there and averaging a calorie presumption, there are other sites that allow me to take a more scientific approach.
  • Calorie Count websites: there are many sites I turn to when trying to calculate calories for a given meal.  For ethnic meals, I find Google to be my best helper.  But, in general, these are sites I turn to: Calorie Counter, Live Strong, Calorie King, Spark People.
  • Calories in recipes, by ingredients: I use this site to calculate when I am making a meal and cannot simply add together the calories of the ingredients being  used.
  • Calories burned:  I use this site to determine how many calories I burn with certain activities.  Enter in your weight and the time spent on the activity, and the site calculates calories burned.  The only issue is that the biking doesnt go up to the speed I normally bike.  To get better, higher speeds for biking (and for other "quick counts), I have added some widgits to my sidebar that give calories burned for biking, running, walking, swimming, and yoga.
  • MPH: I use this site to determine how fast I run (or bike or swim) at a given time.
  • Weight Loss Ticker: this site is where my ticker originates from.
